What is the drone delivery technology? The new concept of future urban drone distribution system

Siri placed an order for a box of Baclaram masks through the mobile app, and the e-commerce platform received the information and sent instructions to the nearest delivery barge. The drone on the barge flew directly to the Siri home after obtaining the parcel of the goods. After less than 8 minutes of flight, the drone came to the 12-story Siri home living room window, parked on the drone landing pad, placed the parcel at the parcel delivery port, and then flew away. Siri takes the mask from the parcel delivery. The whole process is less than an hour. This may be a daily scenario for future urban drone delivery.

London-based industrial design firm PriestmanGoode recently introduced a new concept for urban drone distribution systems.

PriestmanGoode named the integrated system "Dragonfly" to provide parcel delivery services to urban residents through autonomous drones.

“We want to create a non-threatening approach and enhance the city landscape,” says Priestman. “This is very important to gain public support for future commercial drones.”

In PriestmanGoode's vision, the delivery drone will work with autonomously driven barges that will serve as charging stations and distribution centers.

From the design point of view, after the drone picks up the package from these mobile distribution centers, it will fly to the destination and place the package on the landing pad on the roof or side of the customer's building.

He also said, "The future cities we envision will adapt to drone technology, which will lead to huge changes in urban development and do not need to occupy the already crowded ground road network."

In fact, drone delivery is not new, just as Iceland has become the first country in the world to launch drone delivery business services, Kenya has established the world's largest drone distribution network...

The Amazon and Wal-Mart retail giants also proposed a radical “air warehouse” concept. Unlike PriestmanGoode's “water barge” concept, both companies are trying to extend ground logistics services into the air through “air warehouses + drones”.

The future has come. The bold concept of drone distribution will inevitably bring about the test of drone transportation and delivery, urban air traffic control, building surface function, and even the use of water surface functions, but it will also promote the development and transformation of urban management and operational thinking. .
