FedEx, the global logistics giant, has begun to integrate blockchain technology into its day-to-day operations. As a founding member of the Blockchain Freight Alliance (BiTA), FedEx has launched a pilot project.
According to freightwave news company Freightwaves, as part of its work to join the blockchain freight alliance, FedEx has begun to develop an industry standard. At the same time, they have also begun to test some blockchain platforms.
Dale ChrysTIe, vice president of strategic planning and analysis for FedEx, said that FedEx is part of the Blockchain Freight Alliance Standards Committee and has launched the "Storage Data Dispute Resolution" pilot program. Using blockchain technology, the project hopes to recommend the data needed for a permanent distributed ledger to alleviate customer disputes between FedEx sending and receiving goods.
In addition, FedEx also uses blockchains to store logistics records, Dale ChrysTIe said:
“The FedEx system has millions of records every day. We believe that the blockchain can provide a secure chain of custody and then optimize the entire logistics industry. We believe that the blockchain has great potential in the logistics sector and can Simplify all data interactions in a very secure way."
In addition, Kevin Humphries, senior vice president of FedEx, said that blockchain technology can also support customers to efficiently track the parcel process. At this stage, although FedEx only lists a few possible blockchain use cases, Kevin Humphries hopes that there will be more and more blockchain logistics industry use cases.
