Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, will be awarded the first nuclear power plant construction contract at the end of this year.
At present, Saudi Arabia has received EPC bids from China, France, the United States, South Korea and Russia for two nuclear reactors.
According to a consultant from the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, "We expect to sign a project development agreement with 2-3 suppliers in April this year. Only one successful bidder will be built. Two nuclear reactors."
The Saudi government hopes to start the construction of the first nuclear power plant in China in early 2019 and commercialize it in 2027.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia is seeking diversified economic development to reduce its dependence on oil. The Saudi government plans to achieve a nuclear power installed capacity of 17.6 GW by 2032 as part of promoting economic and energy diversification.
