Chen Jian, General Manager of NI Greater China: Value of the Internet of Things Beyond Market Hype

On July 3, 2017, the launching ceremony of the “First (2017) China Industrial Big Data Innovation Competition”, sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and sponsored by China Information and Communication Research Institute, was held at Beijing Guobin Hotel.

At the launching ceremony, as the co-sponsor and strategic cooperation unit representative of this innovation competition, Mr. Chen Jianzhong, General Manager of National Instruments (NI) Greater China, was invited to participate in and delivered a keynote speech - "Building Ecological Accelerated Innovation - Platforming" System Design Helps Industrial IoT and Big Data Innovation, and shared the latest developments and achievements of NI in the industrial Internet of Things and big data with 200+ guests.

1. Perspective: The value of the Internet of Things beyond market speculation

As the third wave of the development of the world's information industry, the Internet of Things is called "the whole topic", and the hot trend is beyond doubt. In his speech, Mr. Chen also used McKinsey's "Internet of Things: Values Beyond Market Hype" as an introduction, calling on the upstream and downstream of the industry chain to focus on the value core of the Internet of Things.

According to McKinsey, the global IoT market is expected to reach $11 trillion in 2025. Mr. Chen believes that industrial IoT, such as: factory operation and equipment optimization; smart cars and state-based maintenance; predictive maintenance; resources and infrastructure management; will occupy an important section, and this is also the focus of NI field.

2. Help big data find "better self"

The Internet of Things brought about by the Internet of Things has made big data an inevitable outcome of the trend.

“Big Data is Better Data,” Mr. Chen emphasized a new concept at the speech site. He pointed out that “in the era of the Internet of Everything, tens of thousands of information needs to be reprocessed and 'dataized'. However, the increase in data does not mean that we see, or foresee more, the essence of industrial big data is to solve problems with new ideas, see 'new' information from massive data, dig out 'different', redefine, Change the nature of the problem and make it better for predicting and planning. ”

3, "Trinity" to build the NI ecosystem

At the meeting, Mr. Chen gave a high-level overview of NI's achievements in industrial IoT and big data by introducing the NI platform and the big ecology.

One: NI platform

Mr. Chen made it clear: “NI provides a life-cycle platform for data. We can collect data, analyze data, display and present data, and process data through FPGAs, and openly connect to other tools, processes, and platform."

Three: NI Pan Ecology

Collaboratively develop standards—NI actively participates in organizations such as IIC, Industry 4.0, and Smart Amarica to define and develop common standards for interoperability. Among them, NI provides many rapid prototyping systems for the IIC Alliance's testbed project;

Working with giants to create a “pan-biosphere” – NI has developed micro-grid control and simulation, tracking and collaboration with IIC members and other leading technology companies such as Cisco, General Electric, IBM, AT&T and Intel. Tracebed management, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, testbed projects such as TSN time-sensitive networks, to promote the formation, adoption and popularization of industrial interconnected systems;

Building demonstration projects to boost the Chinese market – NI is currently working with McKinsey, Tsinghua University and Tongji University to build demonstration plant projects in the field of smart manufacturing and industrial 4.0. As a strategic partner, NI has built an industrial IoT infrastructure and edge computing system for its lab construction;

In addition, Mr. Chen also introduced the remarkable results of the NI platform design method in the field of automatic driving, and helped many car manufacturers, such as Geely in China, to realize the performance test and scene simulation of millimeter wave radar.

“All of this is due to the platform-based system design philosophy proposed by NI. NI is committed to helping engineers and scientists implement any automated test, measurement, monitoring and control system development and software through a software-centric platform design approach. Scale deployment, accelerate innovation and exploration.”——Mr. Chen Jianzhong, General Manager of NI Greater China
