In the previous chapter, "Application of Automixer in Language Sound Reinforcement System (1)" We talked about the automatic mixer divided into threshold automixer and gain sharing automixer, and analyzed the two kinds of automatic remixes. The advantages and disadvantages of each. In this section we will continue to explain the debugging parameters and debugging methods of the threshold automixer.
Threshold automatic mixer debugging parameter explanation
The principle of automatic mixing of various thresholds on the market is the same, so the following parameters are basically ignored in the debugging parameters. The following is a detailed explanation of the practical meaning of each debugging parameter, to help the debugging engineer to obtain higher sound gain in the field!
Last On: Last On ensures that the last microphone that remains speaking will remain open even if no voice is detected. This feature ensures that the speaker can't open the microphone when the level is below the threshold in the gap between the sentences, thus avoiding the problem of missing words when speaking.
Mute: The overall output of the automatic mixer is muted.
Gain: The overall output level gain of the automixer.
The Hold: Hold function adjusts how long the channel remains open after the speaker stops speaking. This feature ensures that a short pause between words in the speaker's speech does not cause the channel to close.
Off Gain: Disconnects the channel level. For example, the microphone is first turned on in the speech, and the microphone is turned on and then talked. At this time, the microphone 2 will gain the gain, but the gain is the microphone two speech level plus the value set by Off Gain. Excessively high settings will cause room noise and reverberation to be heard from unlit microphones. A setting that is too low will cause the microphone 2 to not output enough levels.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity control, which must be turned on when the channel's adaptive noise threshold is exceeded. If the value of this setting is increased, the channel will be easily turned on under very quiet noise. In my experience, a noisy room requires a lower setting than a quiet room. Because in a quiet room, even a very low level sound will be much higher than the noise floor.
NOM Atten: The NOM Attenuator fader affects the amount by which all channels are attenuated when more microphones are turned on. This parameter embodies the attenuation when turning on both microphones and the additional attenuation that is added after each doubling of the number of microphones turned on. For example, when set to 3dB, turning on two microphones will attenuate 3dB, when four are turned on, it will attenuate by 6dB, and when 8th is turned on, it will attenuate by 9dB. In the same way, the number of microphones turned on doubles, and the output attenuation value increases by 3dB.
NOM Limit: Sets the maximum number of microphones to turn on. Channels that are not in Auto mode or that have been muted are not included.
Symetrix Product Threshold Automixer Debugging Steps
Press the “Auto†button of the audio channel that needs to enter the automixer.
Turn on "Last On" to make sure the last talked microphone stays on when the voice stops.
Set the number of microphones that the user needs to open at the same time “Nom Limitâ€.
Set the priority of the microphone channel "Priority" to be higher than other microphone channels.
Speak normally to a microphone and check the Gain meter of the channel. If the Gain meter value of the channel is the highest, look at the Gain value of other channels. If other channels are also higher, you can lower the Off. Gain value, until the other channel "Gain" level is small, while ensuring that after the original speech channel stops, the new microphone can speak normally and get the maximum gain.
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
Turn on the number of microphones set by “NOM Limitâ€. If the feedback threshold is not reached, decrease the “Nom Atten†value. If the feedback is reached, increase the “Nom Atten†value until the feedback threshold stops.
Setting the “Sensitivity†environment is more complicated. The setting value should be lower, and the quieter the environment, the higher the setting value should be.
↓ Summary ↓
The debugging method of the automatic mixer is various. In general, only the specific meaning expressed by each parameter is understood, and the specific parameter setting can be made according to the actual situation. Through the above steps, a higher sound gain can be obtained. In the following articles, we will also share the specific debugging parameters and debugging steps of the gain sharing automixer and other related applications of the automatic mixer, so stay tuned.
