Intel Exploits New Vulnerabilities: Corporate PC Products in 10 Years Affected

May 2 news According to foreign media (PCWorld) reports, Intel Monday reported a newly discovered firmware loopholes, corporate PC products have been affected in the past decade. Intel said that an attacker could use this vulnerability to attack computers through remote management capabilities. The vulnerabilities disclosed on Monday affected the firmware designed for enterprise IT management. Intel recommends that companies that use Intel Active Management Technology, Intel Small & Medium Business Technology, and Intel Standard Management Features in their systems should use patches to fix vulnerabilities as soon as possible.

It is reported that this problem may occur in all generations of Core processors since 2008. These vulnerable vulnerabilities are part of Intel Management Firmware 6.0 to 11.6.

Intel stated that no consumer products have been affected. Data center servers running Intel Server Platform Services are also not affected by vulnerabilities.

"Intel Active Management Technology" is a feature in Core processors that enables organizations to remotely track, manage, and protect interconnected computer arrays. Usage scenarios include monitoring and maintaining retail checkout systems, digital signage, and computers at stores, offices, and schools.

Intel did not provide technical details of the vulnerability, but said that hackers may use vulnerabilities to take over remote management capabilities. An Intel security researcher discovered this vulnerability in March, but no vulnerability has yet been reported using the attack.

Intel is ready to fix the patch and is working with manufacturers to push it to users as soon as possible.

Intel Security Consulting provides self-test methods to help customers check if they are affected. For example, PC products built using vPro technology are vulnerable because they contain Intel's active management capabilities.

If the system manufacturer does not provide a usable firmware update, Intel will also provide processing prompts for the customer. According to Intel, disabling or removing the Windows service named "Local Manageability Service" can mitigate the impact of the vulnerability.
