Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX98500, a step-up 2.2WD class amplifier designed for battery-powered portable devices. The device integrates a boost converter to provide regulated output power, thus ensuring high volume audio output over a wide range of battery supply voltages. ALC helps to avoid signal clamping and prevent battery voltage from fading, which would otherwise cause a system reset. The MAX98500 is ideal for mobile phones, portable media players, PDAs, netbooks, and other battery-powered audio systems.
The MAX98500 accepts a wide supply voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V and operates down to 2.3V. The device offers 2.2W output power (8Ω, VDD = 3.6V) THD+N = 10%) with an overall efficiency of 85%. The device is available in a tiny (2.1mm x 2.1mm) 16-bump wafer level package (WLP) with a solder ball pitch of 0.5mm. The MAX98500 operates over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range and is available with an evaluation board to speed up the design process.
