Google officially released their next-generation Jump camera, Yi Halo. At the NAB conference held on Monday, Ants partnered with Google to launch the latest professional cameras.
Yi Halo natively supports Jump for $16,999. It features 17 cameras and can shoot 8K resolution at 30fps or 5.8K at 60fps. The device weighs less than 8 pounds and the internal battery provides 100 minutes of continuous shooting. Jump Assembler, Google’s high-end VR creation platform, was originally launched in 2015, allowing you to send footage to Google’s servers, and the system will then piece together all high-resolution images.
Yi Halo will be officially launched this summer, which is Google's Jump compatible system with a second camera maker. Google initially collaborated with GoPro to launch a VR device with 16 cameras, codenamed Odyssey. Odyssey is more like a plastic housing system equipped with GoPro cameras, and Yi Halo has made some important improvements over the former.
First, Yi Halo equipped 17 cameras to take more complete 360-degree images. Yi Halo can not only shoot images up to 8K resolution like GoPro Odyssey, but also can shoot 5.8K resolution at 60fps. I believe this unique feature will make some film makers very excited. Movie makers can download the YI HALO Android application at the same time to obtain remote control and real-time preview tools.
In addition to the release of Yi Halo, Google also launched a new project called Jump Start. Jump Start will provide free Jump cameras to 100 specific filmmakers, as well as limited free use of Jump Assembler. The Jump Start project application has been opened today as of May 22nd.
Yi Halo is not the only 360 degree camera launched by Little Ant. The small ants also released the Yi 360 VR camera, which sells for $399. The device can shoot 360-degree video at 30fps with a resolution of 5.7K. The resolution of the Yi 360 VR is slightly higher than that of the Fusion cameras released by GoPro last week, and we suspect that the price of small ant products will be lower. There is no doubt that the competition between small ants and GoPro in the VR camera market will become more intense.
Yi Halo and Yi 360 VR will be first listed in China.
