21ic News Marvell has announced the launch of a new mainstream printer single-chip system (SoC) 88PA6220. The 28nm process technology SoC integrates a dual-core ARM® Cortex® A53 (64-bit) processor running at 1.0GHz, dual-channel configurable scanning and printing channels, a high-performance 2D/3D GPU, and an integrated GE Ethernet MAC and PHY deliver breakthrough performance at a very low system cost. The 88PA6220 also introduces Marvell's revolutionary modular chip (MoChiTM) architecture for its printer SoC family, enhancing the I/O performance of the 88PA6220 with the growing Marvell connectivity and expansion solution. As the industry leader in print SoC, Marvell's 88PA6220 features more than 140 pages per minute (ppm) of page description language (PDL) rendering capabilities, setting new standards for performance in mainstream products. In addition, the printer SoC complements the Marvell printer lineup and offers a price/performance ratio better than the previously introduced 88PA6270 (the 88PA6270 is a high-performance 4-core SoC for the enterprise printer/MFP market). These advanced technological innovations further define Marvell's leadership in printer technology and once again demonstrate Marvell's ongoing commitment to drive the industry with new performance, lower solution cost and fastest time to market.
The 88PA6220 will be suitable for some of the industry's fastest, highest quality mainstream MFPs and copiers that support a wide range of printing technologies, and can fully support a wide range of printing technologies such as inkjet, laser and LED. The 88PA6220 Development Kit includes a hardware evaluation board and the same Software Development Kit (SDK) as the 88PA6270.
Mark Montierth, Marvell's vice president and general manager of the Custom Computing Solutions business unit, said: "The 88PA6220 joins Marvell's market-leading printer SoC family, setting new standards for performance and integration across the industry. The 88PA6220 features advanced features and an unprecedented system. The integration demonstrates Marvell's strong commitment to maintain its market dominance and continue to provide innovative technology to its customers. The powerful extensions of the 88PA6220 include integrated PCIe, USB3 and the new 8Gb/s MoChi interface per lane. The single printer platform expands into a platform for a wide range of products, and the new features of the 88PA6220 also convinced customers that they can meet their current needs and future technology needs."
The 88PA6220 Development Kit provides a fully tested hardware development environment, complete Linux software development kit, detailed documentation and application notes, reference designs, a comprehensive line of wireless networking solutions, power management ICs, consumable security systems, and code Security system. This kit helps customers easily develop complete, full-featured, high-performance and affordable products.
The 88PA6220 sets new performance standards for the printer industry:
· 28nm LP process technology.
· Dual-core ARM Cortex A53 (ARMv8 64-bit) processor with 256KB L2 cache.
· Using the Global Graphics® PDL interpreter to render 600dpi color pages in accordance with J11.ppt industry standard performance test files, the measured page processing speed exceeds 140 pages per minute.
· Dedicated dual channel imaging hardware pipeline. The pipe is configurable, but always runs at an ultra-fast speed of 2 megapixels per second.
· Two JBIG codecs + two JBIG decoders + one JPEG codec.
· Hardware basic components provide image sensor error calibration and error correction, graphics quality optimization, compression/decompression, and native support for duplex scanning and copying.
· Powerful Vivante® GC400LT GPUs support fast, smooth 2D/3D graphics.
· Three additional 32-bit ARM CPUs for user customization, real-time mechanism control, low-power standby and coprocessor functions.
· Dedicated Direct Engine Control (DEC) hardware controls key printer functions in real time, such as laser video signals or LED arrays, laser scanners, fuser rollers, motors, sensors, and CIS scanner controls.
MoChi technology offers new design flexibility:
Marvell's MoChi technology and the growing MoChi Southbridge chip family offer product designers unprecedented product design flexibility. With the advent of new I/O standards, the series is also adding new Southbridge chips, and OEMs can use both 88PA6220 and these chips. Marvell's MoChi architecture reduces costs and provides scalable functionality for different price points.
