Canadian scientists have successfully developed a laboratory chip with nanotechnology that can quickly detect bacteria within a few minutes, allowing medical staff to carry out drug treatment faster and speed up the chances of patient survival.

SaraMahshid's research team from McGill University in Canada worked with researchers from the University of Toronto to develop an "artificial island" that is only one-tenth the size of a hair. As long as you put a small amount of body fluid on the patient and wait a few minutes, you can quickly detect the type of pathogenic bacteria infected by the patient on the three-dimensional nanostructure detection platform through the microfluidic application technology.

The researchers pointed out that even a small amount of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus can be confirmed in a few minutes with a fluorescence microscope, with an average detection rate of 93% and 85%, respectively. The research team hopes that clinical sample testing can be carried out soon. This kind of laboratory chip is easy to produce, and the cost is not high, it will have the opportunity to be applied to other samples, such as urine, blood and saliva.
