Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands announced that the company's lighting was adopted by Valerio Maioli SpA of Italy (published in English). Valerio Maioli is the company that provides lighting systems for the F1 (Formula One) World Championship night race in Singapore on September 28, 2008. Philips and Valerio Maioli jointly developed the reflectors for this car lighting system. This is the first time the F1 World Championships are held at night. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has determined that the Valerio Maioli lighting system is designed to meet safety-related standards.
The illumination system has a brightness of approximately 3000 lux. It is about 4 times that of an ordinary stadium, which ensures that the brightness is close to the daytime. According to Philips, the system provides a safe lighting environment for drivers who are racing more than 300km per hour. In addition, the lighting system does not project light from the vertical direction, but also adopts a design that avoids glare, and can prevent glare during rainy days.
F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone commissioned Valerio Maioli to develop the lighting system in March 2007. After that, through a series of tests in Europe, I finally decided to adopt it in this competition.
Since the street in Singapore's coastal area is the road track, nearly 1500 lights are set on the 5.067km track. One light is placed every 4m on one side of the track, and the height is set to 10m. However, the lighting system is temporarily set and will be removed after the game.
