The Jordanian Ministry of Public Works and Housing recently said that as an important measure to use alternative energy sources, Jordan will soon use solar energy for street lighting. Sami Halasa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Department, said that the Jordanian Ministry of Public Works and Housing will draw on European countries’ experience in using solar street lights. Street lighting currently costs 8 million ticks a year, and the new plan will save Jordan's fiscal savings by millions. Solar street lights will be piloted on the newly built ring road and Hashemiyeh Balama Street in the capital, and then implemented nationwide.
