The recognition of the leading brand
Velop router introduction

There are two types of specific wired networking:
1, light cat / main route ---- a parent VELOP---- switch - the remaining few sub VELOP---- (add switch);
2, light cat / main route ---- a parent VELOP --- a child VELOP---- a child VELOP---- (daisy chain);

Linksys is a leading router brand established in the United States in 1988 and is a recognized leader in home and business networking connectivity solutions. After joining forces with Cisco and Belkin, they focused on home network business. As an international top router manufacturer, it has been very low-key in China, but the latest home-wide Wi-Fi solution, Velop, has been released and the whole family's high-end routing market is boiling again.
Velop router introduction
Velop router is a support 802.11ac wave2 standard, tri-band modular Wi-Fi system, 2 5G information + 1 2.4G channel, wireless transmission rate up to AC2200M, while having a small and exquisite appearance, making it in the room Any place can be integrated with the surrounding environment.
Unpacking and accessories

As a relatively new trend router, the overall package looks brighter and more beautiful. Red, blue and white, giving a youthful and dynamic style. There are a large number of English and multiple languages on the entire package, indicating that this is an international version of the router in front of the world. For me who is not very good at English, if I want to completely understand this router from the box, I can only comprehend it through pictures.

The main features of Velop are noted on the box, and the entire Wi-Fi solution for the home is built. There is no dead space in all directions. Users can use the Linksys WIFI application (iOS or Android) for settings management.

After the box is opened, the inside layout is very neat. The left side is the wire and accessories. The right side is the three routers.

To a family photo:
1. Three Velop Route Ontologies
2. Three 12V2A power adapters
2. Three 12V2A power adapters
3. Three travel adapters
4. Three national standard plugs
5. One labeled Linksys high speed travel cable
6. Manual warranty card
7. One user uses the CD

The Velop family suite is made up of three identical white cone-shaped tower-like nodes. The body is very compact and only 79mm × 79mm × 185mm. The simple and modern style can be integrated with the home. The top has an LED indicator to switch by color or flashing. Marking device status, the innovative hidden slot design at the bottom gave a big praise.

There are two network ports on the bottom of the fuselage. These two network ports can be freely used as WAN ports and LAN ports. The machine can automatically identify WAN (Internet access) and LAN (Local Area Network), and is equipped with a separate device switch. The red reset button can be long pressed to restore your router settings.

You can see there are default gateways, administrator passwords, and default SSIDs on the inside. This is the information that you need to use to set up routing and subsequent system restores for the first time. Don't tear them off.

The stylish appearance of the router is both a product and an artwork. The white lighthouse shape fuselage is very match with the furniture, whether it is on the desk, or placed on the balcony is so coordinated, plus the body has a certain weight, with the base of the anti-slip rubber pad, can be firmly fixed in On the desktop.

Both sides of the router are full of honeycomb heat sinks, and the heat dissipation should not be a problem. The internal Qualcomm quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor is clocked at 716MHz and is equipped with 4GB of flash memory, 512MB of DDR3 memory and a Bluetooth 4.0 module. VELOP supports the 802.11ac Wave 2 standard, has MU-MIMO technology, and achieves AC2200 speed (400Mbps+867Mbps × 2) through dynamic tri-band transmission (2.4GHz+5GHz × 2), and does not cause signal and speed during wireless expansion. Double attenuation.

The adapter head is relatively large, indicating the use of the environment, the input voltage: 100-240V~50/60Hz
Output: 12V=2A has China's 3C security certification mark.

The adapter's output power connector is also designed to have a crescent shape for better alignment.

The plug installation of the adapter really requires Tucao, the design of the installation is difficult, a person is not good to complete the operation, install the direction of the arrow marked rotation, use great effort, and want to replace the three-hole travel outlet again, It is necessary to use tools to remove the plug of the national standard. Hope that the next generation of products can be improved.
Router installation and APP settings

Our respective power adapter cable and network cable are connected, and then observe the LED indicator on the top of the Velop.
LED indicator description:
Flashing blue: Node is starting; Solid blue: Node is working
Flicker violet: The node and the phone match the settings; Solid violet: The node is ready to set
Flashing red: The node is disconnected from the master node; Solid red: The node is disconnected from the network
Solid yellow: The node is too far away from another node that is connected to the Velop system.

This initial setup of VELOP was deliberately performed using the Linksys Smart WI-FI APP. And can only be carried out on the phone or tablet, PC can not be set, we can first download the mobile phone client, after the VELOP in turn power networking, in the APP side to register and related settings.

After opening the app for the first time, you need to prompt for registration. Registration is also relatively simple. We follow the prompt step by step. This may take a few minutes. We must have enough patience to wait. This app is finished more comprehensive, and it is relatively simple to use. Basically, follow the prompts, the next step, and the next step. But to be honest, the APP's design habits are still worse than those of some domestic routers, but considering the international version, it is acceptable.

In the process of setting up the router, we can use the same name for all VELOP networks (a 2.4G+2 5G signals) and no longer have to be puzzled by the intricate WIFI names!
Guest access network settings: The guest network will work at all nodes to provide a wider range and better performance for the guest network in the home.
Parental Controls: Parents can set up and manage a day of the week or control the child’s device access to the Internet in hours. Also a model is very popular in China, and now many primary school students indulge in the glory of the king, and parents can use the router to align the control of "Knowing nothing".
Device priority settings: Priority can be added for more important devices.

For network settings, it is recommended that VELOP be connected in the form of a network.
Here to explain to everyone: VELOP can be wireless networking, can also be a wired network between multiple VELOP.
There are two types of specific wired networking:
1, light cat / main route ---- a parent VELOP---- switch - the remaining few sub VELOP---- (add switch);
2, light cat / main route ---- a parent VELOP --- a child VELOP---- a child VELOP---- (daisy chain);
Test environment my family's 122.6 square small house. (This is a sketch of my drawing with CAD)

Test content 1
I think a 122-square-meter small apartment can be equipped with a Velop, so the first set of data is that I placed a Velop node (position of Velop node 2 on the figure) in the study as a group router. The strength of the WIFI signal was detected at four test points A, B, C, and D, respectively.
I sat next to the desk (where the router is roughly 2 meters away). The test data is as follows:

It can be seen from the test data that a single Velop is similar to an ordinary router, but has a 5G signal, and the Linksys application has a channel search function. It can automatically find the best channel needed to solve the problem of competing for wireless signals. The resulting signal congestion and signal interference problems.

It is still difficult for a single router to completely cover the entire house. We can see that the signal is still good when there are few obstacles at the three positions A, C, and D, but it is far from the router at the B position. Coupled with many obstacles in the middle, the signal is a bit bad, intermittent. Play the game out of frames.
Test content 2
As shown in the above figure, I place a Velop routing node in the study and living room locations, and use the study room as the parent Velop node and the living room as the child Velop node network. Again, the strength of the WIFI signal was detected at the four test points A, B, C, and D, respectively.

From the test data, it can be seen that the Velop after networking is relatively strong. The two Velop nodes cover almost 122.6 square meters of small units and are almost completely free of dead space, and the speed is almost no attenuation. (Because I share a network with the neighbors during the test, the main route may be somewhat limited, so the download speed has a big gap with the actual bandwidth.)

Test content
This is a small technology company of about 20 people. The company's overall area is about 800 square meters. The company previously used a TP-LINK TL-WVR1300L 1300M dual-band enterprise wireless router. I will now lead the VELOP router and TP- LINK does a comparison test.
Test 1: Separate test: Place a TP-LINK enterprise router at test site B in the R&D office as shown in the figure, and place a VELOP router in the same location to test the signal strengths of the two routers at the five locations of ABCDE.
Stand by the router to test the data:
Signal strength
Speed
TP-LINK
-26dBm (5G)
89.43Mbps
VELOP
-21dBm (5G)
90.43Mbps
Single router test points test:
Test point A
Test point B
Test Point C
Test point D
Test point E
TP-LINK
46.85Mbps
87.56Mbps
0
12.55Mbps
26.63Mbps
VELOP
48.71Mbps
88.56Mbps
0
10.55Mbps
27.33Mbps
Computer test signal:
Notebook model: Lenovo Y470. In order to facilitate a more intuitive understanding, we can directly look at the signal strength diagram of the middle "target shape" and the "crowding degree" of the right channel. The environment we tested was the same as above. Monitoring points selected A, B and D.
Point A: Integrated office, separated by two walls.

Point B: Research and Development Office, no partition, with a desk block in the middle.

Point D: Consumer office, separated by two walls, 50 meters apart

From the test results, it may be that the computer network card is relatively old, and the signal is not outstanding, but it is completely enough for ordinary office.
Test 2: The network test put three TP-LINK enterprise routers at the locations shown in the figure and (without networking) put three VELOP routers (wired networking connections) in the same location.
Test point A
Test point B
Test Point C
Test point D
Test point E
TP-LINK
80.85Mbps
87.56Mbps
29.56Mbps
82.55Mbps
38.63Mbps
VELOP
87.61Mbps
88.32Mbps
67.56Mbps
81.55Mbps
61.56Mbps
After networking, we can see that there is not much difference in speed near the router, but in some corners such as test point C and test point D, the difference is prominent. The advantage of VELOP after the networking is obvious. The connection between the test points is relatively stable and the speed is relatively even. There is almost no attenuation.
to add on:
VELOP wired back connection:
The VELOP wired backhaul needs multiple VELOPs to be networked according to the wireless backhaul process. After completing the networking, connect the Internet cable. When the sub VELOP can reach the main VELOP through the cable, it will give priority to backhauling in a wired manner, and at the same time, switch the 5G channel as a wireless backhaul to use as an AP.
