Less than two-tenths of sales of LCD TVs

On February 28th, Samsung China announced that its LCD TVs had been upgraded to LED TVs and its LCD TVs had been discontinued. Samsung became the first company in the Chinese color TV market to stop selling LCD TVs. However, this news did not cause market shocks, because LCD TVs are now the western sun. The reporter was informed that in the sales channels of Shanghai Suning and Gome, both LCD TVs accounted for less than 20% of sales, and the ratio of LED TVs sold by domestic color TV vendors was even higher.

LCD TVs become "rare minority"

Compared to flat-panel TVs for CRT TVs, LED TVs are quicker to replace LCD TVs. Three years ago, LED TVs were still new in the market. In the domestic market, the first LED TVs were Samsung.

When the market was just around the corner, the price of LED TVs was so high that consumers could be deterred. Samsung's 55-inch LED TV was priced at 39,999 yuan, while LCD TVs of the same size sold for less than 20,000. The oddly high prices made LCD TVs occupy the absolute upper hand. However, with the gradual decline in prices, LED TVs gradually overwhelm LCD TVs. At the end of 2010, the introduction of flat-panel TV energy efficiency standards was more of an obstacle than ever before, which led to the accelerated decline of LCD TVs with higher energy consumption.

“From the perspective of our sales, LED TVs now account for more than 80% of the total sales of color TVs,” said Shanghai Suning’s marketing department. A person from the market department of Shanghai Gome said that the sales of LCD TVs now account for very little, less than 10%.

A higher proportion of domestic color TV led reporters visited Suning and Gome's stores in Zhongshan Park. In the color TV sales area, reporters found that color TVs with LCD tags are rare.

In the Samsung TV sales area that just announced the suspension of LCD TVs, there was no sign of LCD TVs. Sales personnel said that they have actually not sold LCD TVs since the beginning of the year. However, in Sharp, Sony, Pioneer and other foreign brands color TV area, the reporter saw several LCD TVs in sales, especially Sharp, LCD TVs still occupy half of the sales area.

In contrast, Haier, Hisense (Weibo), Skyworth (Weibo) and other domestic TV brands are almost all selling LED TVs. In the Konka color TV sales area, there are more than a dozen different models of color TV, sales staff said that there are only two LCD TVs, among them there is a LCD 3D TV, "now LCD TVs are less and less in the store."

“In the domestic brands, the proportion of LED TVs is as high as 90%. If foreign brands such as Sony are still doing LCD, the proportion of LED TVs in the stores is higher,” Suning told the reporter.

Linking LCD TVs and LED TVs From a technical point of view, the main difference between the two is that the backlight systems are different. LED TVs use a backlight source, while LCDs use light emitting diodes. From the point of view of consumer use, LED TVs are more energy-efficient, and the colors displayed are more vivid and lighter in appearance.
