With the increasing demand of users for high-definition video and big data transmission, the high-speed connection technology between different computing devices is quietly changing and moving towards a new development direction. The “Thunderbolt†lightning interface technology released by Intel in 2011 is its representative. From the technical parameters, Thunderbolt is almost twice the speed of USB 3.0. At the same time, as an ultra-high speed connection technology, Thunderbolt supports PCIExpress data transmission and DisplayPort display technology, which can simultaneously transmit data and high-definition video signals (this is a very big advantage), and each channel provides bidirectional 10Gbps bandwidth.
Intel's expectations
Thunderbolt is a big attempt by Intel to enter the field of high-speed transmission, and it is not the first attempt. As soon as the technology was launched, it was first supported by Apple. Apple first adopted the Thunderbolt lightning port on the Macbook Pro in February, followed by Macbook Air, Macbook mini and iMac. Apple has applied for three patents on Thunderbolt. According to Apple's style, they hope to dominate the industry. At present, the few lightning interface devices in the market are mostly high-end, multi-disk RAID storage arrays, and most of them are Apple hardware suppliers. At present, this technology and peripheral products are still high-end demand, only used in certain professional fields. Thunderbolt is still not very practical for home and small business users.
Intel has previously stated that it will vigorously promote Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 on new motherboards in 2012, and the two complement each other. At the 17th "International Integrated Circuit Symposium and Exhibition" (IIC-China) held in Shenzhen a few days ago, Gao Yu, senior technical manager of Intel ODM, said that he would include Thunderbolt as a standard in the second-generation ultrabook. For ultrabooks, Intel provides two different Thunderbolt controller solutions, namely DSL3310 and DSL3510. Among them DSL3310 is a 12x12mm chip, provides two channels of PCIExpress bandwidth, power consumption 2.1W; DSL3510 provides 4 PCIExpress channel bandwidth, power consumption 2.8W. DSL3510 also supports daisy-ring connection equipment, so it has lower cost, smaller size and more power saving. In addition, Intel also has a DSL2210 chip, codenamed PortRidge, which is the lowest cost lightning solution. It does not support daisy chaining and the transmission of DisplayPort signals, but it still provides two lanes of PCIExpress bandwidth.
According to the latest news, Intel has notified its PC partners that it has fully opened Thunderbolt technology in April this year. Intel believes that by 2013 Thunderbolt will be greatly promoted. This high-speed transmission interface will be widely used in the products of OEM computer manufacturers such as Lenovo and Asus and major motherboard manufacturers. Thunderbolt will eventually become the mainstream interface specification for data transmission. It is foreseeable that once the PC also joins the Thunderbolt camp, the production of related ancillary products will greatly increase, and its cost will also rapidly decrease.
The latest Windows has multiple versions, including Basic, Home, and Ultimate. Windows has developed from a simple GUI to a typical operating system with its own file format and drivers, and has actually become the most user-friendly operating system. Windows has added the Multiple Desktops feature. This function allows users to use multiple desktop environments under the same operating system, that is, users can switch between different desktop environments according to their needs. It can be said that on the tablet platform, the Windows operating system has a good foundation.
