DIALOG Introduces Multi-phase DC/DC Power Converters

DIALOG Introduces Multi-phase DC/DC Power Converters Dialog Semiconductor introduced the first programmable multiphase DC/DC power converter DA9210. The converter has been expanded to use high-end smart phones and tablets for different platforms, effectively speeding up the product development cycle.

The new DA9210 four-phase power converter output current up to 12Amp, if the two can be used to expand to 24Amp; if used in conjunction with the Dialog's DA9063 system power management integrated circuit (DA9063 System PMIC) can be achieved 38Amp, suitable for other power rails in the system to provide power. This makes the DA9210 ideal for high-performance ARM Dual big-Little or Cortex A15 multi-core application processors, allowing consumers to execute multiple applications at the same time.

More and more next-generation processor designs require fast switching between sleep mode and maximum download load to reduce overheating. The DA9210 supports this operational requirement while achieving industry-leading power efficiency. This allows users to simultaneously perform multiple behind-the-scenes applications such as weather or Facebook updates; download application updates via 4G LTE while downloading Wi-Fi streaming TVs and high-definition videos. The DA9210 meets usage requirements at any time through disablement and enablement options, maximizing performance across the entire output range and reducing power consumption by 50%. The power supply can raise the current from zero to the highest value in one millionth of a second, supporting fast wake-up of the processor and reducing application response time.

Utilizing this four-phase architecture and fast frequency conversion, the DA9210 allows ultra-compact sensor elements to be used with a maximum height of only 1 mm to support the development of ultra-slim products. The Dialog power management system consists of up to three integrated circuits that work well together, simplifying the configuration and control of the startup power management system. The software loaded on the main processor is optimized to help customers accelerate the time to market, significantly reducing the difficulty of designing future power management solutions.

Udo Kratz, vice president and general manager of Dialog’s mobile systems division, said: “With the DA9210 four-phase power converter, Dialog has created a new concept for a scalable power solution. It significantly reduces the next generation of intelligent solutions that integrate multiple functions. The future development of mobile phones and tablets will be difficult to design and meet the needs of consumers and meet the needs of competitors, in response to the needs of equipment manufacturers to introduce new products every six to nine months."

The DA9210 is available in a voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and can use a single-cell Li-Ion battery, a standard No. 5 power supply, or a USB power supply; it is suitable for a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The DA9210 is available now.
