Analysis: Production of wafers stabilized at the beginning of the third quarter

On Sept. 6, according to Craig Berger, an analyst at FBR Capital Markets, in the report, semiconductor manufacturers generally cut production sharply in mid-July, revealing that the weak global macro economy has affected the demand and production trends of the semiconductor industry.

Berger pointed out that in the third quarter of this year, the total production of primary wafers was basically unchanged from the results of our four weeks ago survey.

Berger said that a preliminary survey of wafer production plans for the first quarter of the fourth quarter showed that output fell by 2% overall compared to the third quarter. However, Qualcomm, Altria, Xilinx and Broadcom intend to increase production.

Taiwan’s MediaTek Inc. has increased its initial wafer production in the third quarter by 3% from the July’s plan, Berger said. Mediatek’s initial wafer production in the third quarter was up 4% from the second quarter.

On the other hand, due to continued weakness in demand for personal computers, Nvidia's initial wafer production in the third quarter fell 2% from the middle of July. Overall, Nvidia's initial wafer production in the third quarter was down 24% from the second quarter.

Berger believes that the initial wafer production in the third quarter of the core laboratory laboratory Co., Ltd. will increase 33% over the previous quarter, Maiwei Technology Co., Ltd. is expected to increase by 24%, LSI and Altra company, respectively, rose by 11% and 6%.
