New halogen replacement lamp based on Seoul Semiconductor's "nPola" technology

Since 2010, Weibao ’s portfolio of high-performance LED lamps in the lighting market has continued to increase. In order to meet the market demand of LED lights and thus be closer to the characteristics of halogen lighting, Verbatim will launch a series of new LED products based on the "nPola" technology of Seoul Semiconductor (SSC).

"NPola" uses a special gallium nitride (GaN) substrate from Weibao parent company Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation for the epitaxial growth of gallium nitride to replace sapphire or silicon carbide substrates. Seoul Semiconductor's patented "nPola" structure minimizes defects in the active layer, making the LED chip's current density 5 to 10 times higher than conventional chips. Therefore, the same chip size can achieve more than 5 to 10 times the brightness output.

The first nPola LED lamp launched by Verbatim will focus on the MR16 design, and the main goal is to replace the 50W MR16 halogen lamp. With the combination of high-brightness output and light beam characteristics similar to halogen lamps, lighting designers and contractors will completely replace halogen lamp lighting with high-performance, energy-efficient LED products that have both new design and environmental characteristics.

SSC and Weibao will continue to work together to jointly develop innovative LED lighting products.

Verbatim's LEDs using nPola will be available at the 2013 Japan Lighting Fair from January 16 to January 18, 2013. Its mass production is expected to begin in March 2013.
