Beijing time on June 15, according to foreign media reports, a few days ago, Apple and Nokia have resolved a two-year-long patent lawsuit. The two parties reached a settlement agreement and Apple paid compensation and royalties to Nokia. Nokia did not publish specific information on this financial mediation contract. Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, said that he welcomes Apple as an authorized user of Nokia.
The two companies have been arguing over patent rights since October 2009. Nokia has sued Apple and said that Apple’s iPhone has stolen the telecommunications and wireless patents of Nokia mobile phones. The lawsuit also shows that Apple has borrowed from Nokia's patents in wireless data, voice coding, security and encryption. Since then, lawsuits have continually escalated to the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
The settlement agreement resolved all patent issues between the two companies and both parties withdrew their complaints from ITC. Apple spokesman Alan Hely said that the settlement is beneficial to both parties, so that they can concentrate on their respective businesses.
