Linear Technology has introduced the 3.5a, 25v step-down switch lt1913 in a 3mm x 3mm dfn package. Operating from a VIN range of 3.6v to 25v, the device is suitable for regulating a wide range of applications such as protected automotive, industrial power supplies and unregulated AC adapters. Its 4.6a internal switch provides up to 3.5a of continuous output current at voltages as low as 0.79v. The lt1913's switching frequency is user-programmable from 200khz to 2.4mhz, allowing designers to optimize efficiency while avoiding critical noise-sensitive frequency bands and allowing the use of small external components. The high switching frequency combined with the tiny 3mm x 3mm dfn package ensures a very compact solution footprint.
The lt1913 uses a high efficiency 4.6a, 95mω switch for up to 90% efficiency. The necessary boost, oscillator, control, and logic are all integrated into a single unit. The special design method used in the lt1913 achieves high efficiency over a wide input voltage range, and the device's current mode topology enables fast transient response and excellent loop stability.
