Pointmedia, located in Norway, is experimenting with a new teaching programme to help students understand the solar system with mixed reality.
Pointmedia's MR developer Jo Jørgen Stordal was behind the project. He wrote a report with teacher Stig Halvorsen that mentioned how to use MR to engage children.
In this experimental class, children have the opportunity to see the solar system in a completely new way. Before Hololens was introduced, students had studied space and the solar system for several weeks.
They first wrote the solar system they knew on the whiteboard. Then, some children had the opportunity to wear Hololens while other children watched the AR projection through an interactive whiteboard.
Stig Halvorsen believes that his project helps to inspire students' curiosity and motivation.
So far, we have seen various uses of Hololens, designing operating rooms in hospitals, and designing dazzling Formula One cars. The application of VR and AR/MR in education will be more and more.
